BIKE RIDE

KIMBLE – MENARD COUNTIES

May 17, 2008

Ride 10, 20, 40 or 100 miles on the Western edge of the Hill Country in Kimble and Menard Counties.  Beginning in Junction the route will circle through the town of Menard and then circle through Fort McKavett, and back to Junction.  This is remote, vast ranching land.  It is scenic and begins the merging of the great Western Sonora Desert with the more verdant Hill Country.

This is the third year of this unique event giving bicyclers an organized ride through this area for the first time.  There is history here as well.  Experience this land where some of the last strongholds of Indian civilizations were confronted by settlers.

The new map should be ready soon -- the ride has been reversed for this year.  Instead of turning at Cleo Road from 1674, all cyclists will continue on 1674 and at the Copperas Creek Nursery, the cyclists can make the decision to go 10 miles to Simon's Mercantile and then turn-around and return to the Courthouse for 20 miles.  OR THEY CAN TURN at Copperas Creek Nursery RIGHT and head up towards Fort Mckavett.
